1. You should never wax before or during your period. TRUE. Hormonal changes just before and during ovulation may heighten the sensitivity of nerve endings, which means that waxing may be more painful, The best time for waxing is just after your period.

2. You should never rub your wrists together when you apply fragrance. TRUE. This can "bruise" the oils contained in the blend, chemically altering the scent. "Leave it alone and let the air dry it."

3. Shaving makes your hair grow thicker. FALSE. However, it can appear that way. When you shave, you're cutting hair off at its largest diameter, so you're left with the blunt end, which often feels coarser and thicker.

4. Filing your nails in one direction, instead of back and forth, will prevent shredding. TRUE. You should file from each corner of the nail toward the middle to avoid breakage and splitting.

5. The aluminum in antiperspirants can cause breast cancer. FALSE. The Canadian Cancer Society states that there is no proven link between antiperspirants and breast cancer. 11. Every time you sleep with your makeup on, it ages your face by seven days. FALSE. Leaving your foundation on at night could lead to clogged pores and acne, but it won’t cause more wrinkles. The bigger concern is leaving on a product such as mascara. Sleeping wearing eye makeup could lead to irritation or an infection. Use a cleanser and eye-makeup remover to get rid of all traces before hitting the sack. And if you’re too tired to wash up at the end of the day, keep a set of makeup wipes at your bedside for a quick fix.

12. Sleep debt is real , you can't make up for lost zzzs. TRUE. Most women need between 7.5 and 8.5 hours of sleep every night. The hours we lose to stress, overwork and late-night partying are gone forever.

13. Storing fragrances in the fridge will make them last longer. FALSE. The oils in the scents will permeate all fats – such as butter and milk – in your fridge, causing contamination. Instead, keep scents in a cool, dark place, preferably at or just below room temperature.

14. Always apply makeup in natural light. TRUE. You need to think about the setting you’ll be in when applying your makeup. If you’re going to be in natural light for most of the day, you want to play with natural colors and textures, like a tinted moisturizer and highlighting powder. If you’re going out for a candlelit dinner, apply darker shades and play with the reflection of light using glosses on your lips and metallic shades on your eyes. Makeup is like an outfit. It really depends on what kind of look you’re trying to create. And it also depends on what suits you.

15. You shouldn't wash your hair after dying it. TRUE. Don’t shampoo for at least two days after dying your hair. Cool trades and a gift

Good morning everyones,

I have done some trades last week on Etsy and I just received my items yesterday.

I was so happy with them.

I just want to mention the fine shops with which I traded with.

Shes sells upcycled items, vintage, costume patterns and more.

And I got vintage tea cups and saucers from her shop

and she also has another shop called Playne Jayne's Place

and from this shop I got this beautiful upcycled journal.

And finally I traded with this fantastic soy candle shop called Jaxx.

I got a cinnamon hand pured soy jar candle and some orange cream danish soy blend wax brittle.

They smell divinely delicious, I am burning the ornage cream danish as I am writing this post and my husband was thinking that I had been baking something really sinfully delicious. Boy was he deceived. Poor him..

and on a finishing not , a feature client of mine from Quattro Design shop on Etsy who was featured here about 1 month ago, sent me a pair of violet earring made of polymer clay, as a thank you gift.

I was very touched by her gift. These earrings are also very beautiful and I have been wearing them every day since. Thanks again Anne-Marie for the earrings, greatly appreciated.

Black bean and squash chili, fall goodness

Good morning, it's a beautiful day today outside.

I want to tell you what I did on the weekend.

Well I live in Quebec, Canada and we had ground frost on Friday night so I had to cover my beets, swiss chard and leeks. But I did bring some beets and swiss chard in.

So I blanched some shiss chard leaves and froze them in portions so we can use them later on. I also cut up the branches and forze those up too, to use them in stews and soups.

And the beets and cut up the branches to feed my guinea pigs and keep the leaves for us to eat immediately like spinach.

And then on Saturday around noon I took out my Crockpot and decided to cook up a delicious black bean and butternut squash chili. A recipe I found while visiting this blog called Frugal in WV.

That is where I found the link to this recipe.

And let me tell you with fall at our doors and cooler temps hitting us around here, it is good to have heartier meals to warm us up.

And by the way it reheats very well.

One more thing I did that day for my daughter to boost up her spirit,

I cook her a batch of strawberry and raspberry jam.

Nothing too complicated though, I had a bag of each frozen fruits in my freezer.

So I cooked both with a bit of sugar.

And voilà! Before you know it I had 2 jars of homemade jams for her, nothing tastes better and it soothes the soul. She works so hard, she works all weekend and goes to college all week.

She was really happy when she got home after work.

So it was a good day all in all and then I went outside to take in some rays.

Pillow box tutorial

I got this idea a couple of years back because I got fed up of throwing so many toilet paper rolls. Mainly I try to recycle as much as I can.
And I came up with this idea after seeing a tutorial of how to make a pillow box from scratch and I thought that TP rolls would be half the work done.

These pilou boxes are great way to offer gifted presents to the ones you love or friends and also to wrap your sold items to send to your customers if they accept recycled wrappings. I know most of them now do. It’s less expensive.
You can decorate them to your business colors and put your logo on them.

Step 1-
Here’s what you will need to make your own pillow box:
-Toilet paper roll
-scissors
-pointy instrument or bone folder
-ribbon
-crafty paper
-round object (like a glass or bowl)
-glue stick

Step 2-

Take your toilet paper roll and your pointy object or bone folder and trace around at the end of the TP roll, like in the picture below and cut of the exterior part.

Step-3

Then take your round object and do the same thing but in reverse, trace around on the inside.
It will be to fold in and close the edges so the goodies don’t come out.

Step 4-
Now fold in the edges where you traced the lines, you will find that they fold in quite easily.

Step 5-
Now decorate your pillow box with your craft paper and ribbons, and voilà, ready for your goodies and ready for gifting or off to your customers.!!!

Long winter hats

Good afternoon everyone,

I know it's been a long time since I,ve posted anything here, and I'm sorry.

But I,ve been a bit off the scene.

I was enjoying sumemr outside and doing not much inside.

Simply relaxing my back a lot. If you remember I had a back surgery last year so I cannot do as much anymore so, this summer I took pretty easy.

But this fall I,m back in business with my shops especially since Etsy changed everything around.

I've been retitling all my items so they come up better in the search engines and on Google.

I also want to let you know that I am not gonna be selling through this site no more but only through my Etsy shop. When I get enough money I'll have my blog technician work on my blog again.

So today I would love to let you all know about my new winter hats that I put in my shop.

How do you use your Tobasco Original Red

Today I felt like talking about food, and what makes it tastes so good, And what about all these left overs that we get stuck with and never really know what to do with them. Well how about a bit of help with our friend the TABASCO® Original Red. This little baby will add superb taste to anything you cook or drink.
I use it on eggs, salads, sauces, pizzas, hamburgers, meatballs, pastas and much more.

You all know it's football season right? and the Super Bowl is right around the corner, I'd like to share with you our family tradition for the Super Bowl. We gather around the kitchen counter some time before the game, and prepare some appetizers for the game, and then we make our homemade family sized pizza. I put on my homemade pizza dough on a large greased pan, which I prepared the day before. We then spread some of our homemade pizza sauce on the dough, but you can buy some store made pizza sauce and add a few drop of Tabasco Original Red to zest it up, the taste will be most excellent. Then we add our pepperoni, green and red peppers, mushrooms, asparagus, broccoli, mozzarella and on top we add some prosciutto and onions. and I add some Tabasco Original Red on top of the pizza so the taste will be enhanced. And every bite will be a total delight. I then bake the pizza and I always make some hot spicy wings that I make with the Tabasco Original Red. IT,s not only that it's spicy but the taste is absolutely delicious.

You Tabasco Original Red is made of salt, red pepper, and vinegar and is perfected in a 3-year aging process that produces a hot sauce with the great ability to bring the most out of your food. It simply brings the best out of your food. Tabasco Original Red was the first sauce introduced by the McIlhenny family back in 1868 and is still the most popular today.

I would like to give you my favorite recipe for hot and spicy wings

16 chicken wings
1/2 cup salad oil
1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons cane syrup or dark corn syrup
1 tablespoon TABASCO® Original Red
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
1/4 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
1/4 teaspoon cayenne
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Cut off and discard bony wing tips. Cut remaining wings in half.

In large bowl, combine remaining ingredients and mix well. Marinate wings in this mixture 1 hour in refrigerator, then grill 15 to 20 minutes or until done, turning frequently.

Makes 32 pieces.

To make this trek, female street vendors usually end up spending a large portion of their profits to travel to safe territory to work. Girls as young as 11 and 12 years old turn to prostitution to help support their families since education for females in Haiti is non-existent in some areas. Nearly 50% of Haitian will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime.

Papau New Guinea. Here women only receive an education until the fifth grade and then enter the work force. Women are four times as likely to have HIV as men. It is nearly impossible for women in Papau New Guinea to achieve financial independence due to lack of education. While the legal age for a female to be married in the country is 16, in most rural villages menstruation will suffice for making a young girl fit for marriage. In 2004, the UN released a report that said 21% of girls between the ages of 15-19 are widowed, divorced or married. According to Amnesty International about 150 women per year are executed for accusation of practicing witchcraft.

Domestic Republic of Congo. Deemed one of the most dangerous places in the world for women to live, the Congo has years of civil unrest under its belt, making it a haven for violence and rape against women. Women were on the front lines of warfare for decades. Torture and rape were common tactics used on women. Even after the war, rape has reached dramatic proportions and puts women at high risk for HIV. Health centers provided by non-profit agencies are usually days away and the only way to get there is on foot. If traveling at night, women are at risk of being kidnaped and forced to serve as sex and domestic slaves Ages range from 4 to 80, resulting in 19% of the female population being infected with HIV.

Juarez. Juarez recently made headlines after the distress of the city inspired designers Laura and Kate Mulleavy of Rodarte. The sisters and designers traveled through Texas for inspiration and stumbled upon Juarez. While other cities and countries on this list are well-known for their violence against women, the happenings in Juarez seem to slip from the headlines. Since the early ‘90s, thousands of women have been murdered with dead bodies turning up on road sides or in vacant lots. Research done by authors, film makers and journalists have turned up links between local establishments, organized crime and local law enforcement. Within the first four days of January 2010, 37 women were murdered.

Darfur. While women in other areas of the Sudan have made great strides, Darfur has fallen by the wayside. Women walk miles each day to gather food and water for their children, regularly risking being kidnaped and enslaved. Husbands seldom protect all of their wives (which is common in Darfur) and usually stick to the elder wife, leaving the others to fend for themselves. At night, women in Darfur stick to safe huts that are hidden among the jungle. Areas like sanitation are improving, but there’s still a mass need for medical and legal services to give women help to create their own livelihoods.

Niger. Women are abused by their husbands in Niger and never prosecuted. This can cause some women to leave their homes and due to lack of education, these women usually turn to prostitution to make a living. Abuse is also common by fathers and brothers, as are rape and humiliation. When reaching out to the authorities, women are often blamed for the actions of men. Hospitals do treat injured women, but never record the reasons for the injury. Arranged marriages are common, so if a woman tells her parents of abuse in her own marriage, it is often seen as an insult towards the parents.

Mali Genital mutilation is the norm in Mali. In the eyes of the lawn, women in Mali are seen as equals, but in reality they take a backseat as citizens. Girls receive schooling until the age of 12, but in the school year of 2005-06, only 49% of girls attended primary school. Girls can legally marry at the age of 18, but marriage with the consent of a parent is legal at 15. These laws are not enforced and arranged marriages happen for girls as young as 9 years old. Many are forced to give birth at a young age, resulting in mass complications and often, death for the girl. While there are laws against rape, men are seldom convicted of the crime. Spousal rape is still legal.

Iraq. Iraq once held a high literacy rate for women. After the U.S. invasion, parents are afraid to send their young girls resulting in little education throughout the country. Kidnap and rape is common even for young girls, as well as adult women. Women who worked before the war now stay home for the same reason. Hunger is at an all-time high in this Arab country and overall, women’s rights have drastically decreased since 2003. Worst of all, Iraq’s backwards laws have caused oppression throughout the country, creating a population of women who are unaware of their rights. In Afghanistan, a woman dies every half hour due to complications during child birth.

Sierra Leone. In the Sierra Leone only 24% of women are literate. On average, women live to be 43 in this country and one in eight women die during childbirth. Just a few years after the end of civil warfare, women in the Sierra Leone struggle with violence and rape more than any other women in the world.. Women deal with rape in a major way, so much so that after becoming victims of rape, men in the villages will mock them. This often leads to the woman becoming undesired and left by her husband. The same goes for women who have children from rape. Some are even rejected by their family members. While legislation for women’s rights in Sierra Leone has been passed, it is seldom enforced and persecuting perpetrators is practically non-existent .

Nepal. In Nepal, women are married off and have children as early as 14 and 15 years old. This contributes to a large number of women dying in childbirth due to lack of proper medical care. Sex traffickers are rampant in Nepal and are often the answer for a girl who is not married by the time she’s 18 or so. Like other countries on our list of worst places in the world to live if you’re a woman, allegedly practicing witchcraft is enough to have women tormented in the streets. Women are labeled “boskis” for no concrete reason which means witch and face severe discrimination. Guerilla groups force women to participate due to civil war between Maoist and government rebels.

While the United Nations and non-profit agencies continue to battle women’s rights around the world, there are some areas where battling violence and looking over your shoulder as you attempt to gather food and drinkable water is a way of life.

I live in Quebec, Canada and I am very lucky to have been born a free Canadian. I do what I want to do and I have access to medical aid whenever I need it, and I am free to do the choices I want.
Though the medical system is really on the brinks now, it is still taking care of us, I sometimes go to the private. But still what I try to say is that I' am free to make my own choices, and it's not anybody else that do these choices for me.

Feeling bad

Hey there, Long time no see!

I've not been feeling so good lately,

I've been so tired, I,ve been getting rid of my morphine a little at a time but it's still been affecting me a lot. and so I've been really down the dumps. I've had a hard time to do things around the house, been tired all the time, everything seems hard to do.

Even coming to the computer has been hard. I've been doing the important stuff and that's it.

But now I've got to take over a bit, so I thought I would tell you what's been happening instead of staying away for so long. I mean we are friends so you should understand.

Thanks go it's finally sunny so it is kind of helping.

And I'm also trying to find ways to make money blogging and I cannot seem to be able to find anything. I really need real ways, you know just by blogging.

So if any of you have any ideas, please let me know. I'd really appreciate it.

I want to let you all know about some news I just heard

right now. And you better tell your friends and family.

A friend of mine just heard about guy who's dog died after munching

on some cocoa mulch, They have learned from the vet that this stuff is highly

toxic. So please be careful what type of mulching you put in your garden, or

where you pets go when you are not with them. Like I went and check in my neighbor's garden if he

had that type of mulching, but she doesn't use any mulching like that except grass clippings.

So be careful people what you put in your garden, make certain it's not toxic so your pets don't get sick, or worse.

Hello and how are you today?

I think I caught a bad cold,

first my daughter got really sick about 2 weeks ago, the doctor prescribed her some

antibiotics and this week she had to go back to the doctor cause she was still really sick. So the

doctor prescribed her another type of antibiotic. Now I hope she will get better, but int he meantime I

am getting her virus. I do not feel so good. But you know how us women are strong?

I will get over it in a jiffy, I hope. I am drinking lots of juices and eating lots of fruits.

Besides my cold, I wanted to ask of you today if you guys had been thinking about what I had asked

about when I was talking about if you had anything left over that you did not use anymore.

I thought I would tell you guys that I am now accepting

most any type of material, but I'll be telling the ones I need most.

I'm always on the look out for material to work with.

and since it's winter, there are no flea markets open, and the church basements are

getting rare in my neighborhoods. so I thought I would ask you my readers to help me

get some material your are not using anymore.

If you send me what you don,t use and I'll certainly be willing to make it worth your while.

Ex: a Tea wallet from vintage fabric, a pair of earrings from buttons.

Hello everyone, I just got back form the hospital.
I'm feeling quite a bit of pain still, but doing better doing after day.
They a 12 inch cut front on my belly and work on my back through

I roll it twice on a ring mandrel to give it its shape, and then when I am satisfied
with it's shape and it's length, I simply cut of what I don't need.
I then take a smaller ga copper wire and start to roll this copper wire around where the black wire ends end, so it's all secure.Then I start to play with my leftover beads to make a beautiful ring for you and you and you or you...

Flower Buttons

The other day It was raining and I had some time on my hand,
so I decided to play with some papers I have that I receive from people that I trade
with cause I love trading with people, you know ,I think that besides shopping, swapping is my second favorite hobby lol...
I mean it permits me to get what I need without spending to much and people
get rid of what they don,t need that way and so I get to recycle what otherwise
would probably would end up in the garbage.
Another funny thing is who would have thought that swapping would exist in this day and age with all this high technology.?

So there I was playing among my papers , cutting and punching and placing my papers that way and this way to finally finishing to place them this way. For your utmost pleasure
for your scrap booking pleasure might I add.
I created some pretty little button flowers.

Don,t mind the white thread you see around the buttons in the picture as it's only
to hold the button flowers in place until it gets to you, Cause I carefully sewed them to the card board with thread and all you have to do to take them off the card board,
is simply cut the thread from the back and delicately take them in your fingers and
use them where you need them. I used a very tiny needle so it won't hardly show on the paper flowers.

I'm always seeing people using all these little buttons and pins , but that's ok.
But I had these lying around for a while and I was working with the Daisy fabric and I thought hey! Why not?
So I put 2 and 2 together and Voilà!!
I hope you guys like it.
I think the effect looks great.

These buttons measure 1 1/8 across.
And you just use the eye in the back to sew them on something or cut it off and glue them to something.

Silk Tie Purses

My silk tie purses are made with a variety of ties.
Though I try to mainly work with nothing but silk ties, they sometimes are rare and can be unfindable for me at least, so I mix them because I am not too picky, I mean by that when I decided to recycle and be eco, I decided not to be a false re cycler like to many stores that pretend to be eco, so I do mix my ties which is truly recycling, because silk ties are very hard and expensive to come by at some point in time.
So I find my ties rummaging a bit everywhere. Church basement, flea markets,
church bazaars, garage sales, special stores, and a special recycling warehouse, where I buy my ties by the 50 pounds bag. That's when I get ready for craft shows, which I cannot do for a while because of my back.
Each tie is washed. So each purse you get is 100% clean and proper to wear.
Each purse has a different backing and a different lining, it depends what I have
on hand when I start to assemble them. But they are all well and perfectly assembled and it is my own design. They each have on pocket inside. They all close with a zipper.
Except for my Hand purse they close with a latch and button.
